Footprints in the Snow

December 26, 2016

Have you ever noticed while walking through snow that the easiest way to get through is often by finding footsteps already in the snow and placing your feet on top of them?

I have been known to spend a moment calculating how I would get my feet in the right position to step on those footsteps already imprinted in the snow. And in most situations, by using this method, I can safely reach my destination. Unfortunately, when there are no imprinted footprints in the snow, I am forced to put my own feet in the snow first. I am forced to deal with the bitter cold of the snow to its fullest capacity. I am forced to carve my own path. The great news is that the next person who comes behind me would have the privilege of using the path I have now created.

I say all this to say in our Christian walk, God has a plan for us. We simply have to walk in it. Don’t take my word for it.

Jeremiah 29:11 says this For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

In other words, God has great plans for you. Furthermore, He has a path for you to take to get there. By the following His voice, He can guide us to our purpose here on Earth.

So, reconsider the snow, what if you imagined those footsteps in the snow as the Lord’s footsteps? All you would have to do is place yourself in the right position and follow His steps and you would reach your destination in a more efficient manner.

Would you still experience some of the coldness of the outside world? Sure, but it would not be nearly as devastating and it would be less dangerous. Instead, by allowing the Lord to lead your path you recognize that He cares enough for you that He will not abandon you in those difficult times. Instead He will lead you through them safely.

Suddenly you recognize that He understands how difficult life can be because He himself lived on Earth and faced the weight of the world, all for you to have the opportunity to follow the WAY. Now sure you “could” still get through the snow without using the snowy footprints. Much like you “could” get through life without allowing the Lord to lead you. But once again, you would be going on your own through the snow.Cold, wet, bitter, alone…

I choose HIS WAY instead.

Cold feet are no fun!

Last thought, there are times  in your Christian walk, you may actually help another along the path. The Bible says that we are ambassadors for Christ. In other words, we serve as His representation on Earth. Just by the way you live someone else may come to know Christ. Thus, it is just as important to make sure you are living a Christ led life so that those who come along behind you have an example as well. Until they come to know Jesus for themselves, they simply follow your footsteps. So watch your step!

Each step we take when we follow Christ will be a step in the right direction! A step toward walking in the victorious life He has promised us!
