Recently, the Netflix series "13 Reason Why" rocked the country. The show, centered around a teen who commits suicide and decides to give her 13 reasons why. The series was raw and caused many to reevaluate their perceptions on suicide. But today, I HAVE to take a moment to speak to the ones who felt an even deeper reaction to the series! For some, this show was their identity. Whether a teen or adult, male or female....they related to the concept of letting go, being non-existent, no longer feeling the pain..As one who has experienced these emotions all to well, may I offer you "13 Reasons Why You CAN not Die today!" In no particular order, I believe that if you can hold onto at least one of these reasons, you CAN make a choice to live today! You CAN keep moving forward!
1.) Your present doesn't determine your future.
That's right! Your today is just your today! It is not your always and forever. The days of now will one day be a fading memory. Your future carries the opportunity for hope. Ask yourself what is the ONE thing you are hoping for?
2.) You have a purpose.
You were created on purpose, for a purpose with a purpose! Although you may not see it now, you were intricately created to fulfill a destiny. And you can, you will, and YOU MUST not give up until your purpose if fulfilled. 3.) Your dreams deserve life.
We all have dreams. Even in our darkest moments, we can imagine ourselves doing more. Maybe your dream is to be a parent, to inspire others, to be a dancer or a doctor. When you die, those dream will die with you. Unfulfilled. Forgotten. They deserve to be awakened and you deserve the opportunity to see them come into fruition! 4.) You were made on purpose.
Every part of you was created well and on purpose. you are just who God created you to be.
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you,when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.Your eyes saw my unformed substance;in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them." Psalm 139:13-16 5.) You are a survivor!
That's right YOU are a survivor! You have survived 100% of the worst days of your life. You may be thinking "But you don't know what I've been through". You are right. But I know that if you are reading this, YOU still have breath in your body. Now's not the time to give up!
6.)Your story needs to be told!
No one can tell your story like you can! Your story of pain, abuse, sorrow, betrayal will be your greatest testimony. There will come a day that your story will touch the hearts of those who are in your situation. They will look at you and say, "If they could get through this, so can I". Don't deny the world your story! 7.) You are NOT the sum of other's opinions.
Let's say that again! I am not the sum of what other's say I am! Every hurtful word that has been spoken over your life is not who you are! These are lies meant to keep you in pain. You are who God says you are. Loved. Unique. A prized possession. Worth Dying for. Purposed for Greatness. 8.) God loves you.
Perhaps no one has ever told you! BUT GOD, the Creator of the Universe loves YOU! Not because He has to but because He loves to. He is absolutely positively in love with you. His love for you is greater than any pain and you can not be separated from it!
Romans 8:38-I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love.
9.) Death is final.
There is no turning back. Once you make the final choice, it over. All the hopes and dreams, your future, all gone. And the reality is your death may be the end to your pain but the start of the pain of those who love you. Don't end your journey early, there's more life to live.
10.) The "What If's"
What if you knew that a year from now your life would be completely shifted? What if you knew that you would find a peace and that God would remove you miraculously from the situations that have gotten you to this point? What if you knew that if you held on just a little longer your life would be transformed. Don't die with a mind full of "what if's"! 11.) Christ died for you.
Jesus chose to die for you. Despite what you have done, He decided you were worth dying for. Not because He HAD to, but because you are worth it! His death on the cross gave you full access to heavens riches. His death and resurrection gives all those who believe the opportunity to have a new life to pray and see things change drastically! Jesus died so that you did not have to die. In Him, there is hope.
12.) Prayer changes things.
Prayer can change the impossible to the possible. Your hopeless life into a hope-full one! If you don't know what to pray, just cry! Cry out to God, He will answer! You will be amazed at how God can reach you right where you are. You are never too far away!
13.) Your journey is incomplete...we need YOU!
The World NEEDS your story! We NEED to see you live out your dreams. Your unique talents and strength is what the world needs. Give us the honor of experiencing your story of restoration! We NEED you to live and NOT die!
